Laboratory Overview

The "Provincial Key Laboratory for High-end Intelligent Gear Transmission Systems" is jointly established by Hangzhou Advance Gearbox Group Co., Ltd. and Zhejiang University. Focused on addressing the nation’s strategic need for independent development of high-end intelligent equipment, the laboratory supports Zhejiang Province’s goal of industrial upgrading by tackling critical technological challenges in gear transmission systems—particularly in sectors such as shipbuilding, wind power generation, construction machinery, specialized vehicles, and robotics. Key research areas include the design of high-power-density transmission systems, the development of smart operation and maintenance technologies, the design and optimization of low-noise and low-vibration systems, and the application of carbon-reduction and energy-saving technologies. Additionally, the lab is actively engaged in developing prototype gear transmission devices and promoting their industrial-scale implementation.
The laboratory was established in collaboration with Hangzhou Advance Gearbox Group Co., Ltd. and originally began as the "Zhejiang Provincial Intermediate Test Base for Paper-Based Friction Materials," founded in 1996. In 2009, it was renamed the "Zhejiang Provincial Key Laboratory for Gear Transmission and Friction Materials Research." By 2024, following a joint initiative with Zhejiang University and subsequent resource integration, optimization, and restructuring, it officially transformed into the "Provincial Key Laboratory for High-end Intelligent Equipment Gear Transmission Systems."

The laboratory has received two Second-Class National Awards for Scientific and Technological Progress, as well as four First-Class provincial and ministerial-level science and technology awards. It has also led or participated in 32 major research projects, including 12 nationally funded projects, 7 provincial-level science and technology programs, 8 major science and technology initiatives from Hangzhou City, and 5 significant technological innovation projects in Xiaoshan District. Additionally, the lab has drafted or revised 46 national and industry standards, and been granted 82 national invention patents.
The laboratory currently has more than 100 permanent research staff, among whom over 80% hold positions of associate professor or higher, or possess doctoral degrees. Their expertise spans across disciplines such as mechanical engineering, hydrodynamic transmission, materials science, intelligent control, and powder metallurgy. The lab has established a dynamic talent recruitment mechanism, continuously attracting interdisciplinary professionals to infuse the team with innovative thinking. This approach has helped build a robust innovation pipeline that seamlessly integrates experienced, mid-career, and young researchers, fostering a characterized by complementary professional expertise, highly efficient collaboration, and steadily enhanced innovation capabilities.
As the laboratory continues to grow, we sincerely invite top-tier talent from all fields to join us in conducting cutting-edge research. We also warmly welcome researchers and scientists from universities and research institutions to collaborate with us, fostering meaningful exchanges and partnerships to advance scientific innovation.
