The dual-speed marine gearbox is designed with two gear ratios at ahead. By shifting between the high-speed and low-speed ahead gears of the gearbox, the propeller obtains different torque, thus achieving a balance among the ship, engine and propeller, and improving the operating economy the diesel engine. Ships equipped with dual-speed ratio gearboxes can save 6-10% of fuel consumption annually.
