On December 29, 2011, entrusted by the Zhejiang Provincial Economic and Information Technology Commission, the Xiaoshan District Bureau of Economic Development organized friction material experts from Zhejiang University, the Hangzhou Bearing Testing Research Center, the Ningbo Branch of the Academy of Military Science, Dongmu New Materials Group Co., Ltd., and Zhejiang Litai Composite Materials Co., Ltd. at the Baosheng Hotel in Xiaoshan to conduct the acceptance review of our company's Zhejiang Provincial Technological Innovation Project titled "Research on Preparation Technology and Mechanism of High-Performance Copper-Based Friction Pads Enhanced with Nanomaterials." Zhang Zengxiang, Chief Engineer of HAGG, and members of the Powder Metallurgy Research Institute subsequently presented reports covering project trial production summaries, product testing results, user feedback, and scientific and technological novelty searches.
This project successfully prepared composite particles using the mechanical ball-milling method, achieving uniform dispersion of nanomaterials within copper particles. A new formulation incorporating nano-copper-based sintered friction materials was designed, significantly enhancing the wear resistance and thermal stability of the friction materials—specifically, thermal performance improved by 42%. The study systematically investigated how nanomaterials and the ball-milling process influence the friction coefficient, wear rate, and thermal performance of copper-based spray-applied friction materials, laying a solid technical foundation for the production of high-performance copper-based friction pads. The project has already been submitted for a national invention patent. The acceptance committee concluded that the project was successfully developed, meeting the requirements set forth in Zhejiang Province's Technological Innovation Project Plan, and approved its completion.
The successful development of nano-material-enhanced copper-based friction materials represents a significant breakthrough in the field of copper-based powder metallurgy friction materials. This advancement will provide crucial technological support for these materials to enter high-end product markets such as engineering vehicles, wind power generation systems, high-speed yachts, and high-speed trains. Moreover, it will offer both theoretical guidance and technical reserves for the research, development, and production of high-performance friction materials, ensuring that the company remains at the forefront of domestic innovation in this area.
